Where to shop

Everything you need for a few days of cooking is within five minutes of the farm. Here's where we go.

Butcher

Gelmetti Albino

Affi · 5 min by car

  • Our butcher in Affi, and the reason a barbecue here is worth planning.
  • Ask for the salsiccia luganega — the coiled local sausage — and let it cook slowly.
  • They'll cut steaks to whatever thickness you want if you tell them what you're doing with them.
Fishmonger

Viviani

Affi · 5 min by car

  • A proper fishmonger, where the local restaurants buy.
  • Go early. What's good depends on the day, so ask rather than arrive with a list.
Winery

Cantina Caorsa

Affi · 5 min by car

  • A small family winery just down the road.
  • You're in Bardolino country here: the reds are light and meant to be drunk young.
  • A bottle at the cellar door costs a fraction of the same wine on a lake terrace.
Supermarket

Grand'Affi Shopping Center

Affi · 5 min by car

  • The shopping centre you pass coming off the motorway.
  • A hypermarket for everything else, plus around eighty shops if someone forgot a swimming costume.
Organic shop

NaturaSì

Affi · 5 min by car

  • A small, very well-stocked organic grocer in the village.
  • Fresh bread and baked goods, fruit and vegetables and store-cupboard basics — and they can order in anything from the wider NaturaSì catalogue.
Pharmacy

Farmacia Farinola

Affi · 5 min by car

  • On the main road through Affi.
  • For anything from sunburn to a forgotten prescription.
